Darkness had consumed them, rain was dancing off their Imperial armour illuminating like frozen branches reaching out for help in the flashes of lightning. The constant scuttling, screaming and scratching sounds, nerving and freezing the lesser men of the Imperial Guardsmen stationed on the planet of Arkhona. "Captain get over here, we need support damnit!" Guardsman Laren screamed at his Commanding Officer. Commissar Calaman stared in disbelief at the fast approaching tidal wave of death, "Guardsmen, we have to hold until help can arrive. Emergancy distress signals are being sent out as we speak , help will come this I swear".
Sword lashing out with tremendous speed, quickly bought back to block the counter attack and twisted back around to cut into the training apparition. "Getting slow Meridius, letting a training tool attack back?" Laentis was sat in the training chamber polishing his armour and watching his friend and battle brother in the training cage, " why don't you come in and see for yourself brother? Or are you too afraid I will ruin your reputation?" with a smirk he opened the cage door and offered a hand too Laentis, member of Third Company and veteran of many battles Laentis would not give the chance to spar against Meridius, part of the First Company up. "Let's hope I don't shame the First by beating you old friend, I'll go easy on you to start with", the sparring began with a series of calculated but ferocious attacks from both sides. Circling each other like hunters stalking prey and lunging in at such speeds a mortal man wouldn't have known what happened, but these beings in the cage were of a vastly improved stock. Modified and enhanced into giant warriors of un-natural skills of war, followers of the Emperor and protectors of mankind. These were the Ultramarines, fiercely honourable and devout followers of the codex.
Several hours into the sparring between these two veteran warriors, and having drawing a crowd it was unexpectably interrupted. Klaxon's sounded and the call for command were thrown about the ship via speaker's in the walls, "seems we shall have to renew this at another time brother" Meridius stated as the crowd rushed away to get the blue armour of the chapter on, emblazoned with the Aquilla and the white symbol on the shoulder pads. Astropath Kyne had recieved the distress signal of the endangered Imperial forces and called for the command party at once, awaiting the Captain's arrivals from their designated ships aboard the Aegis of Ultramar. Admiral Hyppia had listened to the recording and awaited the war council inside the planning room, "Captain's I have dire news, we have recieved a distress signal from the planet Arkhona. It seem's Xenos scum has invaded and the Imperial Forces need our help, suggestion's?" The Admiral stepped back to let the god's of war strategise the plan of action. " I say we send in the Third as we have the best experience with dealing with these vermin" Captain Mikael Fabian of the Third Company announced, "and I say we send in the Second so the Third don't get overwhelmed" Captain Cato Sicarius said while smiling at Mikael. " if everyone else is finished the Forth want's in on this aswell, there are Imperial Forces that need saving" Uriel Ventris, Captain of the Forth Company stated.
After contemplating and careful planning the decision was made, three squads from each were to be sent too Arkhona aboard the Aegis of Ultramar in hopes of saving the forces there. Alongside these was a select squad from the First Company to help oversee the action, and so after the council had finished and the Astartes' squads chosen, the sacred oaths were spoken and and all onboard the Battle Barge. They took off into the blackness of space towards Arkhona, in hope of getting there in time, but not knowing how wrong they were and how much they would go through in doing so...
