++++Ordo Astartes++++ ++All souls cry out for salvation++ +++Brother Warneus report+++
+It seems that Warneus Valus is one of the lucky survivors of the Hive Fleet Behemoth assault on Prandium on the 745.M41. His parents gave him to some merchant's after hearing of a potential invasion, they were travelling too Macragge two day's before the siege of the planet began. These merchant's sold this young child to a rich family as a slave. His masters died early during the Battle for Macragge, but he survived and joined the front line as an ammunition carrier. He was 12 year's old, several acts of faith and valor during the Hera Fortress battle made him noticed by the Ultramarines on the front line.
+Because the Ultramarine Chapter suffered heavy losses, they recruited him.
+As a member of the 10th company, he participated in:
-759.M41 - Scouring of Quintarn - Marneus Calgar's personal command of forces driving out Ork scavengers who had captured the Systems of Quintarn, Tarentus, and Masali in the aftermath of Hive Fleet Behemoth. http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Scouring_of_Quintarn
-805.M41 - The Ultramarines and the Imperial Guard defended Jorun's World from Warlord Gorklaw's Waaagh!
-812.M41 - The Luxor Uprising.
+He became a Battle brother on the 813.M41 and joined the ranks of the 3rd company as a Devastator. The Holy weapon that the Chapter's Weaponsmith's entrusted him is one of the last Ultramarine weapon found on Prandium. But the misplaced knowledge of his origin led him on a holy mission of purging and was not a mere chance.
+As a member of the 3rd Company he fought during the Battle of Arkhona, where he held a strategic postion in ++censored by Ordo Astartes++ during one week of hard fighting alongside a battle brother. During this battle he lost one leg and a part of his right arm, destroyed by a Shuriken cannon. We never recovered the corpse of his comrade. He was found half dead three days after the end of the battle.
+His recovery took five months, and he has been equipped with bio implants.
+The loss of the Aegis of Ultramar in the Warp was terrible news for him. He has become very efficient with the Heavy Bolter that the new Devastator's look upto him. He followed the rest of the Chapter for 100 years through many battlefield's against a monstrous variety of Heretics and Xenos, but he could not bring himself to forget his missing battle Brothers.
+Finally when the Aegis of Ultramar re-appeared, his first request was to join and fight alongside them.
+The Ordo Astartes have accepted this request and ask Brother Warneus Valus to join the StrikeForce Ultra sub chapter.

+Part 1: The Meeting+
+After his farewell to his comrades, Warneus traveled for two months in a Sword class frigate. In the silence of the long travel time he asked himself, what happened during the century onboard the Aegis of Ultramar. How are his brothers , who survived, and how many of his battle brothers died. How, when, why... These questions keep running in his head.
+Two days before he arrives on the Aegis, during a sleep cycle a nightmare awakens him. A blurred vision, but the more he focused his spirit on this vision the more it became clearer. It was not a vision of the future or an idea created by his subconscious, it was a memory, one full of blood, screams and terrible monsters.
He remembered the Battle of Hera Fortress, he was carrying a mortar shell towards a forward post, when a huge dark shape rose over him. The horror of the Lictor appeared to him while his eyes adjusted to the sun light. The Xenos was ready to shred him, suddenly a deep voice bellowed a cry of defiance to the monster. An angel of death struck the monster and they swung over the wall, both bodies fell in a resounding crash as the energy cell back pack exploded projecting a ceramite rain on the tyrannid tide.
During this terrible event, he saw thousands of human bodies, dozens of Ultramarines bodies, dissolved by acid, cut into small parts, decomposing everywhere. The only thing that allowed him to focus on his mission was his incessant races between the front lines and the weapon depot.
He never knew the name of the Ultramarine who saved him, and why he did this. And in the cold space of his room, guilt invaded him. Why was he not with his battle brothers when the Warp took them, he could have aided them and fought alongside them.
+Wanting to clear his head he went to the chapel to pray. On his route he met a young boy, something in his eyes reminded him of when he was younger. The first thing Warneus thought about this child was: Am I an angel of death in his eyes?
He stayed there a few seconds longer looking at the boy, who looked afraid by the space marine. He patted the boy on the shoulder and walked away, thinking about the Aegis and what was to come.
He walked alone, in the cold passage of the ship during 15 minutes, consumed with regret. When he arrived to the chapel, all his doubts disappeared, masked by the magnificence of this room.
+The light passing trough stained glass gave to the chapel unbelievable colors, a golden beam illuminated the face of the Emperor’s statue. This scene revived his faith.
He prayed during hours. A voice broke the silence of the chapel and pulled him from his contemplation. It was and old priest, member of the Adeptus Ministorum. He went up to the center of the chapel limping. When he reached the place where standing Warneus, he asked again:
“Hello warrior of the Emperor, the Office will soon begin. Do you want to stay with us?”
His voice was low, probably due to his age but it kept a solemn tone, testimony of his experience.
The space marine just realized that crew men and some guards were entering the room in silence . The reactions of those who noticed the presence of Warneus in the front row were varied. Some of them contemplated him, others look down for not meeting his eyes. Although he wore a simple toga, his burly figure always impressed humans.
He looked towards the priest and nodded with a discreet nod.
+The ceremony was simple but all the honors due to the Emperor were paid him, though inattention of some members of the assembly annoyed Warneus. The lack of devotion was a point that pissed Warneus toward men.
+By the following day Warneus spent his time preparing his equipment, his power armor tarnished by the battles, was now like new. His heavy bolter, was cleaned, every gilt prints, every mechanical parts was sparkling. He continued to train in shooting ranges, and reread the Codex Astartes again.
It was during his melee training , he noticed a pain from his right arm. Judging by his bio implant it was definitely a nerve dysfunction. He decided to go to a tech-priest to perform the repairs.
The tech priest groused him because of the litanies of hatred he had engraved on his bio implant, the spirit of the machine certainly had not enjoyed this rudimentary work. The remark made Warneus grumble , and he blamed for thinking the Cult of the Machine.
+That's when he returned to his quarters that an announcement transmitted through the speakers gave his hearts leapt: We arrive in orbit Arkhona in three standard hours..
+++Part II: An unexpected discovery+++
+While the deceleration of the ship began, Warneus could see for the first time the surface of Arkhona. Most of the surface was covered by clouds which didn’t look natural, It seemed that the ground was yellow-orange most likely due to ground pigmentation. And indeed some parts were in fact desert land.
Wearing his battle gear he was ready to join the captain of the ship.
His walk through the ship took more time than he expected, and most of the passages and room's were empty. When he arrived to the command room he looked briefly to the tech priests and servitors working around him on different panels.
In the center of the room the Commander of the Wrath of Misericordia’s was sitting looking at screens, reports with hundreds of data coming from the ship’s sensors streaming along them. Most of them weren't useful but some of them seemed to disturb him.
+Warneus introduced himself with a little cough, no-one onboard noticed his arrival. When he asked to send a vox message to the Aegis of Ultramar, the Commander nodded.
One of the tech priest's opened a link between Warneus vox communicator and the radio of the ship, on the last frequencies used by the Aegis of Ultramar, one hundred years ago.
“This is a message to the Aegis of Ultramar, from Battle brother Warneus Valus of the 3rd Ultramarine Company, I received an order from the Ordo Astartes to join you in the Arkhona system in order to reinforce your new formation. I ask the permission of the Captain to join your Battlefleet. Over.”
He waited a few minutes and nothing came back, only the emptiness of space was the answer.
Worried with no reply he decided to send the message again, maybe the Aegis of Ultramar’s radio was on standby.
While he began to speak, the auspex servitor began to cry out in the room: “Huge mass maybe 100 kilometer diameter spotted, at 26 million kilometers, direction: Arkhona planet” the Captain looked at him, it seemed he was disturbed with what the servitor had said. He asked for more detail and to send more power to the Auspex spirit. He asked for a further report and to be kept upto date with it's movement.
After more analysis the auspex sent back a new report, and for Warneus this report meant alot of trouble incoming right on this ship.
+The auspex had spotted three smaller masses than the first one maybe 150 meters diameter on a crash course with the ship and approaching fast. At first the Captain asked if they were metallic or telluric asteroids, the radar operator said that the density was too weak to be telluric and to high to be ice.
While the ship changed it's trajectory in order to avoid the collision, the auspex operator looked at the Captain, with a pale face “Captain these object's are also changing trajectory, impact in 40 minutes.” The Captain directly reacted and began to shout in speakers: “All crew to combat stations, this is not fucking training ladies. We have three big pieces of shit coming right at my ship, and I can guarentee you all that if the paint of my ship is scratched by one of these things, I will send all of you out in order to paint my ship!”
Warneus looked at the Captain with perplexity, it was the first time that this man commanded a ship and it seemed that he had done so all is life.
“Master Warneus what should we do now? -Destroy these objects and fire at will, and as soon as possible send an astropathic message to the Ordo Xeno and to the closest Chapters. It looks like a Tyrannid hive fleet is going to invade Arkhona. - Pilot align those things with our cannon's, send one torpedo for each of them, and send word to the gun decks to fire the Macro cannons at will.”
Few seconds after the order the ship was moving with an agility that Warneus had never seen on Space Marine ships. While he was thinking of a fleet battle he had against Eldar pirates, a huge vibration began to shake the ship, a light beam shot out of the front of the ship and directly hit one of the three Tyrannid “ships” shredding it into pieces.
+The two ships left were closing the distance faster than expected, one of the salvoes shot from the macro cannons missed the target. The Captain shouted a tide of insults for the macro cannon crewmen.
Five kilometers until impact another shot from the turbo laser wrecked the second Tyrannid ship, but a lot of debris from the impact kept going straight towards the Wrath of the Misericordia’s.
Warneus yell at the pilot “Begin evasive manoeuvres now, the acid coming from the debris is going to dissolve our ship”
The pilot tried to keep his calm and follow the order. Meanwhile a servitor brought to Warneus his heavy Bolter and ammunition.
While Warneus equipped his weapons, the ship changed direction brutally, and a huge sound of crushing metal could be heard throughout the ship.
“Impact ! The hull is pierced “
Suddenly Warneus received emergency messages from the engine room, Tyrannid's were aboard the ship and he was ready to accomplish his revenge on these insects….
+++Part III: Fight as if the Emperor himself was watching you+++
The start of the Tyrannid assault began in chaos for the Imperial Forces, numerous soldiers didn’t understand what was happening. Until the Commander asked that they block the blast door in the engine section of the ship. Warneus took the lead of a squad, and they ran to reach the closed door's. As he expected the Tyrannid's were hitting the doors with all their power, at some point acid began to leak through to melt the door slowly but surely as a melta gun would do. Warneus gave the order to take everything possible and use it as a barricade, he knew that if Hera Fortress wall won’t stop a Tyrannid assault then a desk, chairs and table wouldn't do more but at least it would slow them. They took position thirty meters behind this fragile wall in arrow head formation, Warneus on point. Warneus just gave a look at the soldiers, most of them were young and their expression showed him that they had never fought in a real battle. Most of them were pale and in the rank he recognized the young boy he met two day's ago. The boy was looking at him with eyes full of hope. When the blast door began to fall down, Warneus cried out “Fight as if the Emperor himself was watching you!" The barricade began to lose parts “And we shall know no fear!! Fire at will.”
+A rain of laser beams fell on the first Tyrannid's passing over the barricade, most of them kept charging soldiers, but he seen two Tyrannid who fell to the ground. Warneus could recognize Hormagaunts, Termagaunts and Spinagaunts but no Warriors or Genestealers. Sporadic shots came from the Tyrannid ranks, this bio weapon didn’t worry Warneus as he was protected by his armor, but the Imperial soldiers were more exposed to this danger. When the barricade fell down Warneus began to open fire, his heavy bolter began to shout. Most of the Tyrannid hit by the 1.00 caliber Metal Storm Frag bolts exploded in a rain of chitin, acid and iron. Some of them kept running with half of the body lost, but was killed by laser shots.
After a few minutes the wave became less intense, giving hope to soldiers but Warneus knew that Tyrannids were just regrouping their forces for another assault.
This new assault began with heavy fire from the Tyrannid tide, Warneus tried to use his body as cover for other guards but he could not save everybody. A man on his right took a shot in his stomach, acid began to dissolve his body as he cried out in pain. The acid began to penetrate his lungs, his cry disappeared in a strange sound impossible to reproduce for other humans.
Warneus gave a quick look to the different runes in his helmet, most of his armor was intact but the acid severely damaged his shoulder guard. The smell in the passage was horrible, dissolved corpses and metal parts of the corridor reminded him of painful memories of the past. When the Tyrannids charged again the same scene's happened, but this time it was slightly different. Warneus focused all his senses to the wall behind them, he understood that Tyrannids were passing across the walls and if his group stayed here they could not resist the next assault. He gave the order to fall back and to take cover in the next passage.
+As they was running a huge complaint came from the engine. The Commander just informed the crew that the engines where down and the gravity was pulling them to Arkhona's atmosphere. “Evacuate the ship right now ! Everybody to the escape pods.” Warneus opened a communication with the Commander: “I will keep six men with me to give you more time for evacuation, I’ll join when you’re ready to leave!" -"Roger Brother Warneus may the Emperor save you, you and you’re men. Over.” Warneus realized that it was only six men of his squad that were alive: “Brothers the evacuation is going to take time and we must give the crew time to escape. We’ll join them when they are ready to leave. Take cover and fight these monstrous Xenos for the Emperor!”
They fought for ten minutes in a tiny corridor, four of them had died and the remaining two had only one energy cell left for their rifles when Warneus received a static order: “We are ready to leave, join us at lauching bay 3A, a civilian Thunderhawk is waiting for you.” While he received the order another assault was lauched by the Tyrannids, the soldier on the right understood that they would never escape and needed more time to fall back. He spoke to the other soldier: “Listen little brother run away now with the Angel of Death I’ll try to give you more time”. Warneus looked at the soldier and he could see determination in his eyes, he nodded, grabbed two grenades on his belt and charged the tyrannid tide crying a flow of insults. Warneus began his run with the other soldier and recognized the young boy, he looked afraid. Unable to run as fast as Warneus, the space marine grabbed him and put him on his shoulder. When they arrived to the launching bay the Thunderhawk was still there waiting. Once again he would not know the name of the soldier who gave his life for them. When the Thunderhawk took off Tyrannids were entering the launching bay, while the ship began to burn in atmosphere. They began the descent to the surface of Arkhona.
