"Prepare for boarding now Admiral !" Oculus repeated, the lifeless body of what seemed an Ultramarine crumpled on the floor with a smoking hole in his head. “I don't understand my lord I uh, he is or seems to be your brother. How can it be so that he's not?” Hyppia voiced his shock at the recent event's. “ Admiral, an Ultramarine would never betray the Emperor. A loyal Astartes would never harm a member of the Imperium, he was a traitor. He mentioned Alpharius so he is Alpha Legion, how he came to be in Ultramarine colour's and marks I do not know at this time. But if we do not prepare for this attack now, knowing how will not matter as we will all die. So get your self together and move it!” Oculus shouted at the shock ridden Admiral whilst checking his vox as a stream of warnings and attack's were being relayed throughout the Astartes network.
Within moments multiple warning klaxons sounded throughout the ship, “inbound hostiles, torpedo boarding vessels are en route, prepare for boarding action now! Alpha Legion are suspected already on board under the guise of others, be aware of your surroundings and prepare to defend yourselves, this is not a drill!” The Admiral finished the warning by sitting down on the command chair with the shock still running through his system, “Armoury, get our defence turrets up and clear as much of the sky as you can. Emperor know's we will need all the help we can get now, the Ultramarines will do the rest.”
Bolter shells richocheting and exploding around his helmet, Thomas repeated into his vox “I say again I need some more ammo, these traitor's seem to be attracted to my shots and what can I say it's my honor to help them too them. There seems to be a command here, I can see multiple captains delegating troop movement's want me to move in?” Algernon listened in on the transmission and repeated quickly “No Thomas pull back to the bridge Zenilim and Aquilla squad are being sent in too deal with the heretic's Forward Operating Base , get back to the bridge we will need you here brother”.
Domitor Pisces dragged his fallen brother out of the line of fire, “Bogfish, drag him here and frag the corridor we need to hold them back here, Second are getting hemmed in and we need to keep these scum busy!” The Captain of the Fifth shouted towards Domitor Pisces, otherwise known as Bogfish due too an incident involving a foul smelling pond mid engagement with Orks. Fifth Company were holding the corridor but suffering casualties, already half of their original numbers were down due to the onslaught of the Alpha Legion's initial attack. With the loss of so many battle brother's the Fifth were being pushed back but giving as good as they were getting, the traitor legion were more careful about each attack, as they knew the Ultramarines in their tactical superior minds would react accordingly and more brutal now. The next attack would be a decicive one for the Alpha Legion as they would be unknowingly walking into a trap.
Whilst the Fifth were keeping the traitors busy on one side of the ship, the Second Company were sent to hold the Hangar Bay, under the command of Captain Tagras Lucan they started to deploy a defensive line. The hangar was a vast area but the Ultramarines knew it would be a target for the Alpha Legion, so with that in mind the set up began, a Thunderfire Cannon was brought up and placed in position, a Predator Tank was also put into use, the Twin linked Lascannon mounted on top would provide excellent cover fire and counter attack capabilities. Tactical squads, Devastator squads and assault marines were preparing their weapons and checking ammo when the incoming klaxon started. “Sounds like the fun is about to begin brothers, let's teach these heretics how the Ultramarines go to war and hold them here.” Titus smiled as he loaded a fresh clip into his bolter, walking towards his squad who had set up a firing line between stacked cargo boxes. “Captain, we have detected Thunderhawks inbound to your position, defence turrets will do what they can but the numbers are too many to counter. Expect heavy incoming enemy, hold for aslong as you can and I will despatch a terminator squad from the First to help reinforce your position.” Algernon Setonis from the First Company explained to Captain Lucan his orders for the upcoming battle.
“Oculus, take two tact squads and a devastator unit and hold this position, the Life Support will be a priority target for the Chaos forces. I will deploy in reserve with the rest of the Third Company, this room has to hold at all costs. If the Life Support falls then all of our brothers onboard will die not long after we do, and we do not fail.” The Captain of Third Company gave his orders to the freshly replaced Sergeant Oculus who had been taken from the Second Company with high regard, and walked off to prepare the forces for immediate action. “Seems we get the fun part, did you by chance give my thanks for it brother?” Laentis asked his old friend Oculus, despite the rank difference they were battle brothers and good friends of a long time. Oculus could always rely on Laentis in the worst of times, the best example being the battle with the Tyranid's where they formed their friendship. For weeks they had battled the xenos through out the forest and marshland, the hit and run tactics of the beasts took it's toll on the Ultramarines yet Oculus kept them going, kept their spirit's lifted and fighting strong. He personally fought and killed a Lictor class Tyranid that had managed to get behind their lines and was attacking at will. But he was wounded in the process, it was Laentis that had found him and helped him towards safety, talking all the way keeping him busy as his organs and altered system clotted the blood and started the healing process, until an Apothecary could be found and put to work.
It wasn't much longer the squads of the Third had to wait before they came under fire, bolter rounds and plasma shot whistled and blazed past them in a blur of colours and death. Two Ultramarines were struck hard but only one got back up waving his hand to show he was ok, the other lay motionless with a large burning hole in his chest where a plasma shot had hit him square on. They returned fire instantly and took note of atleast one Legion member going down in return, the hallway leading into the room was filled with Chaos Marines so Laentis threw a krak grenade in amongst them and scored atleast two kills, before having to duck quickly as shells exploded around where he had just stood to throw it. At this point Oculus had ordered the devastator squad to open fire with their specialist weapons, Heavy bolter rounds, Plasma Cannon shot and Lascannon lanced out at the enemy forces, bodies fell in the dozen as the heavy weapons spewed forth death in many forms. Yet the Alpha Legion didn't give up, again and again they charged forwards, and again and again the Ultramarines held and forced them back. After hours of fighting, the Third Company had taken casualties but given out many more. The Alpha Legion had stopped trying to rush in after Luthrig, an Astartes had charged at them with a chainsword he had picked up, after he had run out of ammo and grenades. “That's what not to do in this situation brothers” Laentis had laughed as he said it, but knew he would never change Luthrig. Brother Laentis had taken wounds, but fought on side by side with his squad, not slowing or showing any signs of faltering in his duty. As did all of the Third Company, they stood their ground under overwhelming odds, Losing many brothers in the process but never once taking a step back in retreat.
The Captain of the Third Mephitio Kyla, ordered all squads upto the line. He had received word that the Alpha Legion were giving ground, so he wanted to press the advantage and charge. The tacticals reloaded and all stood ready, the devastator's had readied their heavy weapons and all nodded their ascent. Oculus, Laentis and Luthrig stood together, and squad members came across with Tib, Gregor, Moradius and Prime. All battle brothers that had fought with courage and honour, like true Adeptus Astartes, like true Ultramarines. They all knelt and gave their oaths as this charge could well be the last for them if not all of them, but the chance to finish the enemy off was to great too pass up, the tactical advantage of winning this particular fight was a supreme victory for the Son's of Guilliman.
The oath's spoken, the Third Company Battered and bruised as they were made for the hallway ahead of them, as they rounded the opening the bark of bolters sounded and multiple brothers went down. The Ultramarines answered back with their own fire and blew away three more Legion members as they tried to get into cover, Laentis took aim and blew a hole clean through a heretics head. “Now that's what I like to see, a dead traitor surrounded by his brothers” Laentis said through the carnage around him, then carried on pushing forward. Losing count on how many Alpha Legion members they had killed, the Captain directed them this way and that until they found more legion attacking fellow Ultramarines. They joined the fray aiding the beleagured Fifth Company, and adding more heretics to the purged pile.
Drakus, the Sergeant of Fourth Company had received communication over the vox network before the attack took place. "Sergeant we need you to hunt and track down some potential saboteurs onboard, I will leave this with you as we prepare the ship for re-entry of the warp. Keep me updated on the situation and good hunting." The order was passed on by the Captain of the First. "Yes Captain, I will find these intruders and exterminate the problem. I will report as soon as I have news." Drakus responded and the Fourth Company set out in search of the traitors.
Captain Peraston Teras of the First Company was receiving action and damage reports from all cruisers and battle companies at an alarming rate, the speed and suprise of the Alpha Legion attack had caught them off guard, but they were not beat and were fighting back on all fronts. “Captain, we have secured the access to the bridge and are well prepared for any assault from the enemy, Fifth has been cut in half but are holding at present, Second have been tasked with holding the hangar bay and I have sent a squad of terminator's to help aid them, Third are with the Life Support and Fourth have hunted down some traitors and are on route to the Warp Drive. Ship has sustained damage on multiple decks and fires are spreading, crews are attempting to supress it but with the Chaos force boarding the likelyhood of their survival is minimal. What are your orders Captain?” Algernon gave out the report and was eager to recieve the order for combat as he couldn't stand not fighting alongside his brothers, they were doing their duty to the Codex though and he couldn't ask any less of them. “Algernon, keep communicating with the companies and co-ordinate the defences onboard the Aegis. I shall inform the other cruisers of our situation and start initiating a counter attack of the enemy ships, Emperor willing we will win the day and send these heretics back to their Chaos Gods.” The Captain of the First stated as he stood by the holo display panel as readouts and friendly and enemy positions were being portrayed upon it.
Thomas arrived back onto the bridge with a number of fresh dents and holes in his armour, “looks like you had some fun Brother, did you leave any of them left for us?” Librarian Caesar smirked as he clasped hands with his fellow First Company comrade. “Yes Librarian I think I left one or two, but if you need some help with them just ask” laughing as he said so and walking towards the Captain to make his report. Varus, another member of the First was with Meridius keeping watch on the approach to the bridge. They was both close comrades of many years, after working with Librarian Caesar and Thomas Aurelius in a select squad under the command of Chief Librarian Gavikk. They had been sent back to the first with instructions from the Chief Librarian to maintain their positions within the Company, and be prepared for anything to happen during these uncertain times. Apothecary Karlaen was checking and rechecking his narthecium when Varus called out contact, he moved into position in the prepared firing lines they had set up. Thomas and Algernon beside him and the Librarian behind them, Varus and Meridius were exchanging gunfire with the Chaos forces and slowly withdrawing back to the line. Taking a shot to the shoulder pad and knocking her back, Varus got pulled up by Meridius and signalled that she wasn't hurt and carried and pulling back while firing her Stalker Bolter. Precise rounds picking out any enemy that couldn't get into cover quick enough, the Alpha Legion were approaching and using the side entranceways as cover and keeping the First Company member's busy with their superior numbers and raking fire.
The Chaos attacking the bridge were led by a Terminator Captain, armed with an assault cannon and lightning claws he was a force to be reckoned with even for the First Company, but one in which they would take without pause. The enemy Captain laid down suppressing fire with his assault cannon, keeping the First Company ducked down it gave time for the Alpha Legion to push up and onto the bridge. Frags and Krak grenades were thrown over the cover and a single melta bomb intended for the Terminator also, which unfortunatly missed it's mark but took out a number of legion members. A quick exchange of fire before close combat was initiated, Captain Teras directed himself for the enemy captain drawing his Power Sword, and Algernon went with him as taking on a Terminator was no easy feat in power armour. Meridius drew his gladius short blade, leaped over the cover in and amongst the traitors. Varus, Thomas, Karlaen and the other members of the First pulled their blades out, the Apothecary Karlaen also had a chain blade along his Narthecium to aid him. Librarian Caesar drew his Force Axe Custodem Fidei and entered the fray alongside them, using his psychic abilities aswell as his force axe and bolt pistol.
The fight was fierce, brutal and unforgiving. Ultramarines fighting side by side, back to back, killing in droves as the Alpha Legion pressed in around them. Meridius ducked and lunged out with his blade, Varus parried a thrust aside and head butted her opponent, Thomas had dropped into his fighting crouch and was in a prolonged blade fight with an enemy, Karlean was using both his blade and narthecium to counter his enemies. Caesar was pressed in by a number of Chaos and force pushed them back as he swung his axe up and killed one marine, while the other members held their own and parried and dodged and used their blades as they used their advanced training. Captain Teras and Algernon were in an intense battle with the Terminator Captain of the Alpha Legion, Captain Teras had received multiple wounds and Algernon had his right shoulder pad nearly torn off by the lightning claws of the enemy. It was getting desperate on the bridge, the amount of Chaos marines were beginning to overwhelm the First Company despite their advanced training and the presense of their Captain and Librarian. The human's on the bridge were firing their laspistols and lasrifles, the loyal forces on the bridge were throwing everything they had in the defence of it.
The air was filled with bolter smoke and las gun essence, the ground and walls were splattered with Astartes and Human blood as the melee consumed all in it's path. The ringing of blades upon blade, the snarling of the chainblades and the screeching as they broke through the power armour in a succesfull hunt for the flesh beneath. The First Company were in trouble, but the veterans that they were they never broke, never feared death. They were made for war, and war was upon them. They answered the call without doubt and without question, but they knew that they needed to hold the bridge. The melee was intensifying, and the Alpha Legion seemingly unending. Librarian Caesar was using his abilities to the best of his capabilities, but his physich hood could only take so much. The pain in the back of his head from over exerting himself was growing and he knew he would have to stop soon or risk passing out, and that would mean certain death in the current situation and he would not leave his brothers in that manner. Meridius and Varus were fighting back to back as they heard a bloodcurdling cry and a gasp from the humans behind them, they looked at the origin of the sound and seen Captain Teras hang limp as the Lightning Claws of the enemy Terminator Captain puncture his chest and began to tear gaping wounds downwards. The wound was fatal in that there was no doubt, as the Captains body fell, Algernon drove his sword with all his might into the face of the enemy and pushed down with rage after seeing the Captain fall. The sword was pushed down to the hilt and the Terminator flailed and gurgled with the sword inside him, Algernon stepped back and unloaded his pistol into the Chaos leader's head and into the holes they had created in the armour with persistant precise attacks. Finally the enemy leader fell, and Algernon let out a war cry and picked up the fallen brother Captain's sword and charged the Alpha Legion warrior's that were besieging the rest of First Company.
Not one of the First Company was uninjured, amber and red warning lights were blinking on the majority of their armour huds, their heavily augmented healing systems were working overtime as they pushed themselves to stay up and keep fighting. And yet still the enemy came, still the onslaught was bought too them. And yet just as the fight was nearing a decisive moment, a war cry was heard, one that bought fresh vigour to the Ultramarines. "For the Emperor!" followed by more war cries "Courage and Honour", as the remaining Fifth Company members charged the rear of the enemy ranks. Hemmed in from two sides the following combat was a brutal slaughter of the traitor forces, "Bogfish, I thank you for the intervention. Looks like the Fifth was hit hard, did you split forces or have we brothers to remember with honour later?" Meridius asked while leaning against the wall bleeding from multiple wounds but reloading his pistol,"Brothers we shall remember later brother, they hit us unexpectably with a large force. We held for a great length of time but lost a number of brother Astartes, we were reinforced and assisted by the Third, they have moved on to help the Fourth I believe. It seems we are winning the ship back, any news from the Second? And how goes the other ships?" The reply from Bogfish laid heavily upon them as Algernon, now the Leading member of the First reached out on the comm link to Chief Librarian Gavikk.
Chief Librarian Gavikk had taken Sergeant Proto from the Fifth and a squad of Ultramarines with him across to one of the other ships, investigating a strange sence of foreboding and the reasoning of the mishaps onboard. As the Alpha Legion had attacked the Aegis of Ultramar, so had they attacked the rest of the fleet, including the ship Gavikk and Proto were on. Less defended but no more stoical than the brothers on the Aegis, and fighting with just as much fury to defend themselves. It was after a series of failed attacks by the Chaos Legion that Gavikk had finally got communication back with the Aegis, "I repeat this is Librarian Gavikk aboard the Guillimans Honour, we have been boarded and require assistance immediatly. Alpha Legion have been repulsed but more are inbound, require answer on course of action"
"Librarian thank Terra the comm's are back up, we have forced the traitors back and are in the process of clearing the rest out now, we will send forces immediatly. Hold your ground and help is on the way, we.. what was that!" As Algernon was answering the call, the ships warp drive was activated, "get the engineers down there now, Meridius get on the vox net and send the nearest squad down there. We need that fixed or we will be thrown into Emperor know's where in the warp, Gavikk stand by for further information." Algernon finalised the answer as the bridge streamed into action witht he latest event.
A squad of Third Company was nearest the Engine bay at the time, after receiving the message over the vox network they pushed onto the Warp Drive. As they approached they came under fire by a handful of remaining Alpha Legion , they answered the attack with precise bolter fire and select shot bolt pistol rounds. The enemy went down fast as the squad didn't stop moving forward and into the engine bay, they found a mess of everything as the enemy had been wasting time as the warp drive was being tampered with. They put down two more enemies and split up to search for any others that remained, one astartes stopped to report in the all clear when a grenade went soaring past his helmet towards the warp drive. He reached out to grab it and throw it away but the timer had been set to 3 seconds, so all the Ultramarine had time for was to warn the others to get back before it exploded him and part of the Drive. The Astartes he saved were astonished at the blinding light that came forth from the drive as it was damaged in the blast, "This is squad bravo reporting that the Warp Drive has been damaged by a grenade blast, we cannot near it now so Emperor protect us!" They reported the unfortunate happening to Algernon who sat back in the command chair with clenched fists, as now they were going into the warp unprepared and unknowing where they would enter. "Gavikk, our warp drive has been damaged and is taking is into the warp, we cannot send aid now by Terra we will need all the help we can get. Do what you can and warn the Chapter of this event, we will do what we can to repair and return...... Emperor protect you my brother." Algernon sat back with a grim face, "prepare what you can for warp travel, and get the engineer's onto repair as soon as possible. Clean the ship of the filth that caused this and honour those that passed in the attack."
"Aegis this is Guilliman's Honour, we will do what we can to hold the enemy ships off so your warp travel can be unopposed. We honour your courage and will await your return, I have a feeling that you will be of import in the near future. Sergeant Proto has counter attacked the chaos onboard and I shall aid him now, this is Gavikk and I wish all upon the Aegis a safe return to Macragge."
